New Fiction Idea #26

Because it's just impossible to read Don Quixote without wanting to be a part of it somehow.

Working Title: The Adventures of Donny Quigley from Smudgen, Kansas

Genre: Adventure/Fantasy

Protagonist: Donny, a thirty-something man living in his mother's basement. An avid D&D'er and  reader of fantasy, particularly one large series within a certain universe, he's in somewhat decent shape from diehard LARP'ing but has never qualified to be an athlete. He's an Asian-Caucasian mix, with brown eyes and dark, wavy hair.

Other Main Characters: Sander, a pale-skinned man in his early twenties with hazel eyes and dishwater blonde hair in curls. He's gullible, watches too many movies, and is even less of an athlete than Donny. Donny's neighbour, he tags along with Donny on his quest, figuring that somebody has to support the fellow just in case he's actually right.

Antagonist: None in particular. Windmills will be involved.

Setting: Rural Kansas, U.S.A. Donny is under the impression it's an ancient kingdom.

Plot: Donny decides he is the next Knight of the Amulet (an order from his favourite series) and sets out to fight valiantly against ne'er-do-wells, the vast majority of them imagined.

Point of View: Third person, with historian narrator.
