More interesting-sounding words that I may or may not ever get to use.
(This may be the last instalment, as I've gone through all of the dictionary.com Words of the Day I had saved.)

riposte ugsome galligaskins
slake dulcify blatherskite

I already commented on this, and of course it's gone now... Cock-a-hoop is very familiar, though I can't remember what it means, and I remember anagnorisis from Greek Mythology class - doesn't it mean recognition or revelation or something?
ReplyDeleteCock-a-hoop: in a state of unrestrained joy or exultation; boastfully elated
DeleteAnagnorisis: (in ancient Greek tragedy) the critical moment of recognition or discovery, especially preceding peripeteia
(So, yes.)
Yeah, I remember cock-a-hoop now. And we learned about peripetia (reversal) too, in relation to Oedipus Tyrannos.
